A wheelchair is a good thing

In the community of MontAlegre in Honduras we were able to give a wheelchair to a 10 year old girl (in picture). Without the wheelchair and with very limited seating outside their small house, she spent most of the time in the house on the only bed the family owns. Now she can spend more time up in the chair outside with her dad, mom and little brother. They were grateful and we had a good time visiting with them all. Again, this is an example of what your donated dollars can do.

What? No bathroom?

While we were there, we saw a couple of things we would like to help them with that we would like to pass on to you. They do not have a bathroom at their little house. They have no sewer lines this far up the mountain. No one does. They dont even have water lines but that will be coming soon. Presently they have an old fridge, laying on its side to hold water that they cook with and bathe with. The man has been digging a hole (picture) for a septic system and is just about ready for blocks and cement to build the walls for the tank. For the first half, it will take close to $400 for supplies.

Only one bed

Also, in their one room house they have one double bed. The mom and 2 kids sleep on the bed while the dad sleeps on the concrete floor. We want to provide another bed for the kids so the parents can sleep together in their own bed. You can understand that, right? 🙂 The cost for the bed with mattresses is around $300.

A single mom needs your help

There is also a single mom with a 6 year old girl and almost 2 year old twins. After the twins were born her husband deserted her leaving her to raise the kids. She lives with her mother who helps. She has acquired a small parcel of property and as she can and buys block to eventually build a little house for her and her kids. We would like to help her with this by buying enough blocks and cement to get the walls up. Later we will worry about the floor and roof.
